Section III. MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES
3-8. RAISING AND SECURING HOOD
The operator/crew is responsible for daily, weekly, and monthly preventive
maintenance checks and services listed in table 2-2. Certain other maintenance
services, also the responsibility of the operator/crew, are explained in this section.
a. Raising Hood.
(1) Apply parking brake.
(2) Release left and right hood latches (1).
WARNING
To ensure opening of the hood assembly is accomplished safely and
effectively, always maintain the proper lifting posture with legs bent
and back straight. Failure to do so may cause damage to equipment or
injury to personnel.
(3) Facing the drivers side of the hood, position one hand at the rear area of
the hood and the other at the rear area of the wheel well.
NOTE
Due to the inherent weight of the assembly, the hood may flex when
opening, possibly causing interference between the right side of the
hood assembly and the body. This interference can be eliminated by
pushing the hood assembly laterally, away from the individual, prior
to lifting.
